Saturday's Swatches: L'Oreal Colour Riche Les Ombres in Disco Smoking

Taking a fresh breath from all the neutral palettes that I've previously featured, let's look into a slightly bolder palette this week -- L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Les Ombres in Disco Smoking, that is!

This quad was kindly sent to me by Priceline, and my first thoughts when I saw this quad was... "Ok. Black and purples can work.. but how the hell do you work in the mustard yellow shade?". Eek. I guess that's for you to figure, haha..........ha...ha. Ok. That wasn't really funny :(

The Les Ombres quad features 4 eyeshadows and contains a small sponged eyeshadow applicator, which has a round end and an angled end.

Let's go for a shade-y rundown:
  • A true black with slight shimmers. When applied, the shimmers can hardly be seen, so it looks very much like a matte black. It's also a bit patchy when swatched.
  • A shimmery plummy purple
  • A shimmery red-violet. Looked like quite "bruise-y" when swatched.
  • Yellow.. this one's like a cross-breed between mustard yellow and tumeric yellow. It has a very slight orange undertone and it is also of a shimmery finish.

The eyeshadows applies to be fairly pigmented and are best used over an eyeshadow base. There's also little fallout, so beware!

I was kidding when I said it's up to you to figure out how to coordinate the eyeshadows.. haha. There's actually a diagram on the back which gives you an idea of how to use it...

However, being the creative bean I am (jokes!).. I whipped up a look of my own :P Here it is!!!

And here are some MORE glamourous photos....

As you could see, this last photo may just be the most glamourous photo of all 5.

LOL. Just kidding!

But anyways, from the quad, the shade that stood out to me most is the yellow. It makes everything fun and poppy! When I looked at it, I just knew it HAD to be placed in the inner corners!

Have you tried L'Oreal's Les Ombres quads?
What do you think of the selected colours for this quad?

L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche Les Ombres, $AUD23.95, 8 different quads, at Priceline.

Saturday's Swatches: Australis Paparazzi Perfect HD Eyeshadow in Totally Busted

Yay! After rolling round in other brands, today we are back with my very favourite brand -- Australis! As you know.. I'm a big Australis gal! I was actually looking through my blogposts the other day and I'm pretty sure Australis is the most featured on Beauty With The Beautifool, no joke!

This week's Saturday's Swatch-a-day stars 'Totally Busted' from Australis' Paparazzi Perfect HD range! This eyeshadow has actually sat in my stash for a loooooong time.. had no idea what to do with it as I'm not an eyeshadow user.. Meep!

This palette comes with 5 shades with that criss crossed design (as shown on the back of the packaging). Although it looks pretty, it's actually isn't practical at all. I had a hard time swatching these myself because the shades sat so closely to each other in the palette and the criss cross design certainly didn't help so I can imagine all the pains and struggles of using a brush when trying to get into the inner corners of the shades.. Meep!

As for the eyeshadows themselves, they're smooth, non-chalky and packed with pigments. Not as top as the eyshads from my Urban Decay NAKED palette, but seems fair for its price.

All 5 shades of the palette are shimmery, shimmery and shimmery. With pearly sheens.

LOL, yes guys! I've tanned...... alot.

They're not overly shimmery on the eyes, but I'd still prefer at least 1 matte eyeshadow in it. It'd be so much more handy for on-the-go's and so much more versatile.

Here's my created look with all 5 shades:

Don't ask me how I did it. I do not know...... :P

Have you tried Australis' Paparazzi Perfect Eyeshadows?
How did you go?

Australis PP HD Eyeshadow Compacts are $15.95, available in 4 shades, at Priceline, Big W, Target and other Australis' stockists.

Throwback: Last year's Halloween Make-Up Attempts

I know I know! I know we don't celebrate Halloween here in Australia (I wish we did *sad) but that doesn't stop me from trying out the wicked and whack make-up looks! Unfortunately I'm extremely busy this year throughout October and it's impossible for me to whip up any Halloween looks, but meanwhile.. check out some stuff I tried last year! :P

I'm a big fan of horror movies (if you didn't know) so as soon as I finished watching 'The Slit Mouthed Woman' also known as 'Carved', I figured that I HAD to try recreating that slit mouth!!

So here's my lousy first time attempt...

Original post here >

The slit looked quite 'meh' so I will make sure to try again next year although I was really hoping to attempt it again this year... I can't believe I'm giving up on Halloweeeeen make-up because of my stupid assessments! Meep!

I also really liked the Chucky series (a must watch! It's so funny!), so I thought I'd try a dark, gothic make-up look inspired by Tiffany (Chucky's wife from Bride of Chucky!).

Original post here >

Again, my lousy work... brows are uneven (yikes!) and it wasn't even concealed at all..

All in all, I should've been more organised, but don't you worry! I have ideas for next year's Halloween already! Hehehe!

I also wished Halloween was a bigger thing in Aussie (although I wouldn't really know what I'm celebrating)! All day watching fabulous Halloween make-up tutorials and not being able to wear them out because there's no such celebrations in Aussie.. sucks!

Colour Me In: A Purple FOTD & Manicure

'Colour Me In' is a series of posts in collaboration with Alice of ArsyParsy, Tezza of Myteeefine and Amanda of Thai-Tales!

*****

Hey there my poo poo heads (actually something I'd say in real life)! :P

A twist on the usual swatches and reviews today! Today's post will feature a purple FOTD on my younger doo-doo head sister, Dung.

I woke up today and got straight to it! I pulled out a few purple eyeshadows with its complementaries and worked my magic on her.. LOL. I kidz. I'm not that great with eyeshadows.. :(

But I managed to whip up a presentable purple FOTD on my sister, here it is..

Yeap! To create this look, I used...

  • Wet N' Wild Eyeshadow Palette in Lust (Limited Edition) -- I received this from a giveaway, and I'm pretty sure it's L/E! I used the bottom four shades.
  • Mode Cosmetics Single Eyeshadow in 'Grape'
  • Face Of Australia Lip Quench in Lychee Crush (as base)
  • MAC Prolong Wear Lipstick in Unlimited (applied over the top)

And of course, to finish off.. I have this beautiful purple nail lacquer to show you!

Breath taking, isn't it?

It a deep foil-y purple lacquer, with silver shimmers by Mirenesse, called 22 Charleston Me from their Bullet Proof range.

The formula and chip resistant wear is amazing. I've worn it for three days in the photo and it still looks fresh!  Remember to check back this space within the upcoming weeks for in depth reviews!

Your turn to tell me..

How do you incorporate purple into your make-up routines?

Whether it be eyeshadows, lipsticks or blushers(?!)..

With the never out of trend purple, make sure to jump over to my fellow bloggers' site for more purple'licious   posts! This week's posts includes Alice's whip up of her favourite purple lips, whilst Tezza will show off a purple boxed blusher (guess?) and Amanda's many ways to wear purple lipsticks!

Lunar New Year Tết Inspired Make-Up

Hey everyone!! As we all know, tomorrow (23rd Jan) is the first day of Lunar New Year, which is also called 'Tet' in Vietnamese.

Depending on each family, the celebration lasts for 7 to 15 days which means everyone should avoid cussing, being unhappy, arguing and all the negative stuff on those days. It is said that you will have bad luck throughout the year if you don't follow these taboos.

Also, remember not to sweep your house tomorrow! Sweeping out on Lunar New Years will bring negativity to your fortune for the rest of the year since it's believed to be 'sweeping out your fortune'.

Anyways, ceremony's ways and offerings varies from people to people depending on which part of Vietnam an they are from.

My family is from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) of South Vietnam, so for florals, we prefer to decorate our homes with Hoa Mai (Ochna Intergerrima) which today's make-up look will be inspired of!

For your info, North Vietnam celebrates with peach flowers that are just as pretty!

My inspired look!

Products used:
  • Australis Eyeshadow Primer
  • Urban Decay NAKED (Half Baked, Naked)
  • Le'Lan Vital Eyeshadow Palette (matte dark brown)
  • 88 Eyeshadow Palette (Red mixed with water to create a pigmented red liner)
  • Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
  • NYX Doll Eye Mascara
  • Australis Paparazzi Perfect HD Blush in Shoot to Thrill
  • Australis Paparazzi Perfect HD Blush in Flash It
  • Face Of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminating Pearls
  • Sportsgirl Pout About It Lipstick in Juicy Watermelon (review here)
  • Missha White Pencil Eyeliner
  • Nail Art Rhinestones
  • LashGrip Lash Glue

Yay!! I hope you like it!

Because of my tiny double eyelids, I've always loved thick eyeliner looks, so I really enjoyed executing the idea and glad it turned out well!

Slit Mouthed Woman Inspired Make-Up

Today's gonna be another Halloween post, on another horror movie. This time, it's inspired by the main character Mayumi Sasaki of 'Carved' which is also known as 'A Slit-Mouthed Woman'.

The movie is based on a Japanese myth (interesting!) about Kuchisake-onna ("Slit Mouthed Woman").

According to Wikipedia, basically... there was once a woman whose mouth was slit from ear to ear by her jealous husband. She then return to town as an evil spirit wearing a surgical mask (to hide her slitted mouth) and stops children who are walking home alone by questioning them "Am I beautiful?".

If the child or children answer 'yes', she will remove her mask to reveal her slitted mouth and ask 'How about now?'. If the child or children answer 'no', they will be cut in half or if they answer 'yes', she will slit their mouth(s) like hers... from ear to ear.

So I just bought special effects recently so here's my nooby recreation on the mouth....

One thing I wish to improve is blending the latex with my skin better! I will put in more effort next time... you can see at the red arrow that there's a thick layer of latex just sitting dried there! It looks like hives or something!

Lastly, I did over-exaggerate the slit a little too much than the movie's make-up, but I can tell you that I'm NOT disappointed for it's my first time using latex and scar wax! I also wished that I had a pair of plain white contacts and mask to complete the look.

I will give this look another try in the future with proper eye make-up and props! :)

Now... time for you to answer my question.

"Am I pretty?"

Jk.

Bride Of Chucky Inspired Make-Up

There's only a few days left to Halloween and it's a shame that I haven't done much Halloween make-up looks for this end of the month!

But I did complete one look yesterday and I wanted to show you guys! :P

It's an inspired make-up look from one of my favourite horror movies, Bride Of Chucky. Yes. Chucky, the creepy doll who kills! But the movie 'Bride Of Chucky' also features Tiffany, who ends up to be Chucky's partner later on!

So I thought I'd give it a shot and do an inspired make-up look by Tiffany (the doll)! Here's a photo, I used for reference:

My inspired look...

I could've done better though! I should've also contoured my face and spent more time sculpting my lips so it looks much more sharper! I should've also researched more photos of her so the eye make-up could be more precise and accurate... so I can only call it an 'inspired' look.

But at the end of the day, I'm pretty happy with the eye make-up because it compliments my tiny eyelids (Asian eyes) and eyeshape better than if I did exactly the make-up that Tiffany had!

Hope you like this inspired look! If you have tips or suggestions about what I could've done to improve the look, please drop a comment below!

Dare to Wear #4 Challenge by FunnyFaceBeauty (Illamasqua)

Hello beautifools! Another quick post for today...

I recently stumbled across FunnyFaceBeauty's blog and I saw that she has put up a 'Dare to Wear Challenge' blog post. In her most recent Dare to Wear post, she features fewer photos by Illamasqua which which was from their recent collection called 'Theatre of the Nameless', I believe.

I actually don't know much about the brand, so correct me if I'm wrong!

But on another note, Illamasqua's stash of photos looks amazing! Ooft! This has to be my favourite photo of their collection:

I love the thick black outline of the facial features and that little circle on her cheek... I don't know what it is, but to me.. it looks like a cute mole. Hahahaha! Or 'beauty spot' if you'd like to call it.

Of course, out of FunnyFaceBeauty's post, I picked this look to recreate! Too bad I don't have any necklace and accessories for props!

So here's an attempt of my recreation if you're ready....

I actually like the photos with flash better as they didn't wash out the intensity of the black eyeliner and all...

Overall, this was a very fun and messy look! I definitely enjoyed seeing my mum's reaction when I blocked out my brows also!

One more thing about this look is that, I actually only blocked out half my eyebrows, so I had to go over with Photoshop to actually remove the traces of me brows! I also used Photoshop to intensify the black eyeliner in the first two photos as the lighting did wash it out a tad..

Besides that, I did not airbrush my skin or whatever - just in case you're wondering!

There's fewer things that I do need to improve or change about this make-up look also! I need to work more on highlighting the cheekbones and also my eyelids. And more blush too! Cry!

Hope you liked this post!

P.S. I look like a man with my outlined lips LOL!

Love for False Lashes Make-Up

I've always loved extremely dramatic lashes guy! I'm not talking about the everyday dramatic lashes! I love those lashes too but what I'm talking about are the super bright, bold, catwalk inspired lashes!

Like this...

I did buy them recently and will have a haul post coming up! But what I'm really excited to share with you are my camwhore photos of my make-up with these lashes! Tell me what you think!

I honestly didn't know how to spice up my eye make-up as the lashes were so big! But I gave it a shot!

These lashes look like sunnies when I look down! If you are wondering if they are heavy.. they are not at all! They are very comfortable, light-weight and easy to apply although the band is quite thick.

Camwhore time!

Yes...

Poser - checked.
Camwhore - checked.

What I have on:
  • Foundation: Masquerade + ShowFace Foundation (self mixed shade)
  • Concealer: MAC Studio Finish Concealer
  • Powder: Australis Ready Set Go Finishing Powder
  • Blush: A pink/coral eyeshadow by Showface (applied a very light layer)
  • Highlighter: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector (highlighter for nose bridge + cheek bones)
  • Eyeshadows: ShowFace palette
  • Eyeliner: Le'Lan Vital ExtremeWear Gel Eyeliner
  • Lashes: Purchased from an Asian store in Cabramatta
  • Mascara: Prestige My Blackest Lashes Mascara (bottom lashes)
  • Lip Colour: L'Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in Burning Rose and dabs of Rimmel Colour Show Off Lipstick in Tell No One

I know that something needs to be done about the lighting, but I hope that I'd be able to figure of an inexpensive solution!

Till then.. everyone take care and have a wonderful day!
